RB Prospects for the NFL Draft

I really like this year's RB class. The two studs of the class before the season started were Beanie Wells (Ohio St) and Knowshon Moreno (Georgia), neither had the heisman level seasons that were anticipated, but both remain at the top of this year's RB class. The thing I like most about this year's class is the 2nd/3rd rd depth. Their is a very good chance that the best NFL players will be taken after the first round.
RB POSITION GRADE: B+

1. Chris "Beanie" Wells (OSU) 6'1 240 DRAFT GRADE: 89
Following the tradition of big bruising backs from Ohio State (Archie Griffin/Eddie George) Beanie will punish opposing tacklers. Wells does not possess breakaway NFL speed, but will get the tough yards, and at the very least will be a great Goaline back. Wells impressed at his pro day, and will battle Moreno to be the first RB off the board. NFL COMPARISON: Larry Johnson

2. Knowshon Moreno (GA) 5'11 207 DRAFT GRADE: 89
Knowshon played on a very talented Georgia team, and played against the best defenses in the country (SEC). He excelled throughout, showed big play potential, and flashes of absolute brilliance. He can catch the ball out of the backfield and is extremely shifty, making defenders miss with his quick feet. Knowshon will be gone sometime in the top 25 picks. NFL COMPARISON: Ronnie Brown

3. Donald Brown (Uconn) 5'10 208 DRAFT GRADE: 86
Played well throughout his career, stayed relatively unknown due to lack of exposure at Uconn. Carried team in Bowl win. Big play threat, and very durable. Rushed for over 2,000 yards his Jr. season leading him to turn pro. Has great hands, and stayed well over 5 YPC even when teams knew that was all Uconn had offensively. Could sneak into first round. NFL COMPARISON: Cadillac Williams

4. LeSean McCoy (Pitt) 5'11 210 DRAFT GRADE: 82
Versatile runner, tremendous between the tackles and has big play ability. Rushed for 1,488 yards and 21 TD for Pittsburgh. Remained healthy throughout college career and excelled in the Red Zone. Needs to improve his blocking skills, but still should be taken in first 2 rounds. NFL COMPARISON: Clinton Portis

5. Shonn Greene (Iowa) 5'9 220 DRAFT GRADE: 78
Banger in his one season at Iowa. Only RB in the nation to rush for 100 yards in every game he played. Very consistent, 6 YPC against the solid rushing defenses of the Big Ten. Has been doubted his whole career and suprised. He will need that to continue that as most think he doesn't have the ability to take success into next level. NFL COMPARISON: Marion Barber

others in the mix: Javon Ringer (MSU), Cedric Peerman (Virginia), Andre Brown (NC State), Kory Sheets (Purdue), Rashard Jennings (Liberty)
