MLB Prospects for NFL Draft

The MLB position has two top prospects and then lacks any semblance of depth. Outside of the top two you are looking at projects or career back-ups. If Curry was to get taken by Detroit, that would add to the MLB class as he would be asked to play inside for the Lions.
MLB Grade: D+

1. Rey Maualuga USC 6'2 260
Maualuga is a big, nasty hard hitting MLB who is great against the run. He is an effective blitzer and is solid in coverage. Does not posess elite speed. Has been called too aggressive.

Draft Grade: 90

2. James Laurinitis Ohio St 6'2 244
Many have called Laurinitis the smartest player in the draft. Has sideline to sideline speed and is a solid tackler. Has played inside and outside while starting three years and winning almost every award possible. Has trouble shedding blocks.

Draft Grade: 81

3. Darry Beckwith LSU 6' 242
Lacks ideal height and struggles to shed blocks. Great athleticism for an inside linebacker. Played in the SEC, and led a dominate LB corp at LSU. Beckwith had a poor senior season with injuries and only 51 tackles. He was expected to dominate and struggled at times. Could fall into 3rd even 4th round.
Draft Grade: 71

4. Dannell Ellerbe Georgia 6'1 235

Insanely quick, and athletic. Has the physical ability to make any play you could ask of a backer. He is considered very small for an NFL ILB, he may need to add upwards of 20 lbs. Injured in his senior year and had close to zero production. Will fall into 3rd round.

DRAFT GRADE: 69

5. Jasper Brinkley South Carolina 6'2 255

Ideal size, basically a brick wall in the middle of your defense. Will punish ball carriers that come near him. Lacks outstanding sideline speed, can be beaten to corner. Will excel against the run, and struggle mightily in pass coverage. Durability is a major concern, but he is now 2 years removed from his brutal knee injury. Brinkley will be taken late 3rd, early 4th round.

DRAFT GRADE:67
